How play and time in nature can create a sense of calm and well-being in your child (and for you too!)
For children and parents alike, one of the best ways to improve mood is through play!
Imaginative play (such as hide-and-seek and make-believe) allows your child to practise facing fears in a safe environment. On their own terms, they can slay the dragon and rehearse for new or scary situations, over and over. Creative play that uses hands-on materials like playdough and finger paints can be soothing and create a sense of calm. Play helps your child learn about and practise expressing their emotions.
Outdoor play is important to a child’s development. Playing outside not only supports whole-body movement but relieves stress and increases well-being. Taking small risks, like playing near some buzzing bees or getting their face wet at sprinkler, can help a child conquer fears and build self-confidence.
These resources focus on how play and nature can support your stressed or anxious child.
