Relational Approaches to Anxiety for Youth in Care
Alarm is responsible for keeping us safe and moving us out of harm’s way when danger is present. It is meant to be situational, but when there is a chronic lack of safety the emotion of alarm can get stuck, causing the symptoms of anxiety. Some of the best ways to get alarm unstuck is to help a young person feel safe in relationship by focussing on the relational approaches described below:
Walking Alongside Anxiety explores the use the four teachings, which can be applied safely and cross-culturally, to strengthen relationships with youth who have unmet needs, and who are exhibiting symptoms and behaviours related to anxiety:
